It’s Sunday, the world is on holiday, and the shops are shut. Out there, nonetheless, there are things that need a jaded view taken, and our jaded view starts here. Today:
- An art competition, based on Paint Shop
- Speech recognition for Ajax from Microsoft fan Bosky
- Google Calendar “launches“
- Fluorescence beats phosphorescence: OLED light bulbs
The OLED light bulb won’t replace ordinary bulbs, simply because they aren’t small enough. It’s a strange thing about artificial light, because as soon as we get a nice point source, we try to disguise it with shades and covers. But where do you put a metre-square glowing panel?
The art competition doesn’t warrant much mental effort; it’s a single joke. But they’ll mail the picture of your choice to a friend.
Speech recognition: I’m always unimpressed by it. People keep saying how good it’s getting; it isn’t.
And Google Calendar. Really, really interesting, including making your calendar shared. Story of the day!

Nice to see you here, Munich. Didn't I see you over on Bravenet or something?
